Message from the Governor
Dear Fellow Vermonters:
As the governor of Vermont, I believe that all Vermont residents should have access to quality, comprehensive health coverage. Currently, 90 percent of Vermonters are insured, including 95 percent of Vermont children, and we’re helping to lead the nation in health care reform.
Although we have much to be proud of, there is still more work to be done. Today, more than more than 65,000 of our friends and neighbors remain uninsured. Living without health coverage is a risk no one should take. When you are uninsured, you can’t always afford to go to the doctor when you need to, letting minor health issues turn into major problems.
That’s why I am proud to announce Green Mountain Care, a family of low-cost and free health coverage programs that work together to offer quality, comprehensive health coverage to uninsured Vermonters, no matter how much they earn.
If you’re uninsured, I encourage you to find out which program might work for you. If you know someone who’s uninsured, urge them to explore their health coverage options through Green Mountain Care.
This is an exciting day in Vermont. Working together, I’m confident that we can ensure every Vermonter has the coverage they need to lead healthy lives.
Sincerely,
Governor Jim Douglas
